Libby's Fireman Page 3

  Epilogue

Weeks went by with Jack spending every available minute with Tara and Libby. For the first time in his life, Jack was in love and it thrilled him to death. He felt as if he finally had the family he’d been looking for.

“Jack! There’s a call. Little girl in a tree. Jack, it’s Tara’s house.”

Jack ran out of the firehouse and climbed in his truck. He turned lights and sirens on, driving as fast as he could get there.

When he pulled in the driveway, he dove out of the truck and ran for the backyard. He stopped dead when he saw the scene before him. Tara was dressed in a sundress, as was Libby. There was a table set for three with flowers and candles. He slowly got his feet moving again and approached the table. “What’s all this?”

Tara nodded to Libby and Libby walked up to Jack. She took his hand and led him to one of the seats. When he sat down, Libby stood in front of him, as serious as he’d ever seen her. “Jack. Me and Mommy loves you.” She shot a look at Tara, then continued. “Will you marry us and be my daddy?” She bit her lip and shifted from foot to foot, while she waited for his answer.

Jack couldn’t catch his breath. He looked between the two girls that he loved more than his own life and started to smile. He slid from the chair to kneel in front of Libby. "I would be honored to be your daddy, Libby. The truth is, I already feel like you’re my little girl. I couldn’t love any little girl more than I love you.” He gathered Libby in his arms, hugging her tight to his chest.

With Libby in his arms, Jack stood and walked to Tara. He looked down at her face and saw her eyes swimming with tears. He smiled at her. “Thank you. Thank you for making me part of your family.”

“Thank you, Jack, for coming into our lives and loving us.”

I am known by a few names. At any one time I am known as Mom, Mommy or Mama, depending on which of my three children are wanting me. My husband of 19 years has his own names for me. But the name on my driver's license says Tracey. I work as a cost accountant at a local manufacturing plant.

I've been having a love affair with books since I was a teenager. I love to read. Romance novels are my favorite. I read traditional and non-traditional.

About 12 years ago, my husband introduced me to NHRA drag racing and I loved it. We try to go as often as possible. Mmmm...the smell of Nitro.

I love to bake when I have time.
